Tell Me About Josh Keyes Wood Panel Reproductions > First Impressions Here and Abroad

First Impressions Here and Abroad

Guardian Project - July 1st, 2016

Package arrived today, very quick considering its from the states, looks like no issues with the customs due to the material.

Excellently package, no damage at all to the contents.

Very impressed with the build quality of the frames, feel very solid and nice wood too, the printing looks superb colours seem to look as close to the original print/painting as you could get.

Love the idea of the black frame, works really well on the larger size and adds to the whole package.

I own a few originals by Josh and these look very much like them when positioned side by side.

In my opinion as a fan these should be very well received, for further releases though I would try and simplify the process...

... ( the piece ) arrived very nicely wrapped and safe in the FedEx box.

Honestly, my first, overall impression – “blown away. “ I’m tremendously impressed by this and will not be missing a single future release.

The overall quality of the piece is remarkable. It was upon unwrapping and taking the first overall survey of it that I realized that you need a better way to convey what these actually are and how your sell strategy works.

PRESENTATION: Superb – the frame and print both look wonderful. It’s sturdy and seems durable. I really like that aspect because I can consider hanging these in locations that I previously wouldn’t have considered. Because you receive the whole package (art+frame), one can walk around and try on a few different locations on walls or set it on something as well like a shelf or furniture. I really like the versatility of these. (Typically I get the print and then spend a lot of time thinking about framing and where to hang it and then I get it done and it just doesn’t look like I had anticipated.) I also understand the mounting choice very well and played with that a bit as the image wasn’t centered in the frame. It was easily removed, but I don’t doubt the mounting hold at all. It was nicely secured. I used some quarters to space the bottom and sides evenly and it positioned the work to fit very nicely centered in the frame.

PRINT: Very good – The print quality is very very fine. It absolutely draws comparisons to what it would be like to own one of JKs smaller original paintings on wood. The prints I have are all on paper and mentally, even framed up when not floated, you know that it’s ultimately an image on paper. This new wood format changes that mentally for me and it’s actually less distracting as a work of art being on a medium that the original was created on. I also believe that the work will remain more stable over time and is not as fragile as a paper-based print. The only thing missing in this wood version is the texture that live paint and underpainting would have created. I wonder if there’s a way to reproduce that in some capacity and then print over it. That would be the ultimate level of reproduction. But again, I found no obvious flaws in the print and enjoyed the details that could be seen in this reduced size.

OVERALL - Ultimately, my biggest takeaway is simply that your emails have not done justice to your product. I mean, I thought I knew what the product would be like, but didn’t! With limited visuals and not a lot of easily digestible information, I think you may have undersold yourself.

I am absolutely thrilled with the quality and level of detail of the prints on wood.

David Hooten is a gifted craftsman and technician and has an excellent eye for perfection, he is an artist at heart. David has been the primary printer I have worked with for the past six years. We have made many editions together, and over the years discussed collaborating on a special project. From these discussions he drew out a concept...

The prints on wood are a bold and beautiful compliment to the fine art paper editions. They give collectors both old and new a fresh way to display and collect the work, high quality, hand crafted prints, at an affordable price.
